Thousand and One Nights (in Arabic , ألف ليلة وليلة Alf layla wa-layla-lit. Thousand Nights and a Night- , in Persian , هزار و یک شب, Hazar yak shab-o) is a famous collection of stories Arab Middle East medieval technique that uses the framing narrative or Mise en abyme . The core of these stories is formed by an old Persian book called Hazar Afsana (the Thousand Myths) (in Persian هزارافسانه). The compiler and translator of these stories into Arabic is supposedly the storyteller Abu abd-Allah Muhammed el-Gahshigar , who lived in the ninth century . The main story of Scheherezade that in Cairo in 1835 . provides a framework for other stories, seems to have been added in the fourteenth century .
